The "Population" database provides data on population characteristics such as sex, age, socio-occupational category, and nationality. This data is based on the Infracommunal Reference System (IRIS), which is a statistical geographic unit utilized by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) to analyze and publish demographic and socio-economic data. IRIS are subdivisions of communes, which are the smallest administrative division in France. IRIS have a population size ranging from 1,800 to 5,000 inhabitants, and their boundaries are determined by the distribution of residential buildings. IRIS are used to provide a fine-grained geographical level for the analysis and dissemination of statistical data related to population, housing, employment, and other social and economic factors.
The 2019 data is distributed based on the geography in effect as of January 1, 2021. In addition to the data, the database includes a list of variables, details on data usage, and data geography in META tables.
